Hi,
Re: You may qualify for full legal aid or contribution based funding from the Legal Services Commission who will help you find a lawyer.
A friend of mine lives on his boat and is having eviction problems. His Solicitor calculated he would be eligible for legal aid and issued an Emergency Aid Certificate (I think that's the correct term).
When the assessment came back they had ignored his costs for mooring and put his housing costs as £0
They cancelled the certificate and, as the defence case had already started under the Emergency Certificate they also said he would have to pay all costs to date.
His Solicitor has appealed against the decision but has anyone had any experience of Legal Aid not regarding a boat as a housing expense?

Any help appreciated, Andy

Although we now have a mooring my wife and I have spent the last ten years travelling and trading on the canals. We would like to say that even though we are now a little more static we support your aims. Our view is that all boaters should be free to enjoy the waterways in the same way that we have been able to do. It seems particularly wrong that the waterways authority are consistantly refusing to specify the distance which boaters should move in order to comply with licence conditions. Our view is that this is just a form of bullying.
Good luck to you.
Mac and Pam.

Hi,

We're a team of caseworkers working Bargee Traveller clients on claims of discrimination by the City Council. If you could provide details of relevant law firms, we'd be very grateful.

Many thanks,

Arianne
