The NBTA is running a training day for volunteer caseworkers on Saturday 9th May 2015 from 11am to 7pm at the Quaker Meeting House, 150 Church Rd, Watford, Herts WD17 4QB. Lunch will be provided. We receive a lot of requests for help from boat dwellers without permanent moorings. The majority of those who contact us are experiencing problems with the following: enforcement action by Canal & River Trust and other navigation authorities; eviction from riverside moorings by local authorities and other riparian landowners; and difficulty accessing welfare benefits, especially Housing Benefit. We are looking to expand our team of volunteer caseworkers, especially as enforcement by Canal & River Trust and some local authorities is being stepped up. The training day will cover these scenarios in detail. Background reading material will be provided beforehand. The training day is free, but donations are welcome towards the cost of room hire and amenities. There are 30 places on this training day. If you want to take part, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 0118 321 4128 with the following details: 1) Name 2) Email 3) Mobile number Please also provide brief details of the following: 4) Your experience of living on a boat without a permanent mooring 5) Your knowledge of the law relating to living on a boat 6) Any advice work or casework you have done in this or other sectors 7) Any other relevant experience that equips you to be a volunteer caseworker with the NBTA 8) The role of volunteer caseworker often requires you to be available to boat dwellers at short notice. Can you commit to being a volunteer caseworker in these circumstances, and can you also attend two feedback and support meetings per year to continue your development in this role?
