Birmingham mooring restrictions only slightly less inconvenient after CRT consultation

Many boaters responded to the recent CRT consultation opposing the removal of all 14-day mooring space in Birmingham city centre. CRT now states that all visitor moorings in the central zone will become 4-day moorings, reverting to 14 days in winter (1st November to 31st March). All the pontoons at Cambrian Basin will become long-term moorings, including the two that were visitor moorings. However, the visitor moorings north west of Sheepcote Street on New Mainline and south west of Granville Street on Worcester and Birmingham Canal will become 14 days all year round. If you are unhappy about the relegation of 14-day mooring space to less convenient locations, further from the city centre, and which some boaters consider to be unsafe to moor in, send your objections to enquiries.westmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk

These restrictions will be trialled from 3rd July to 31st December 2023. CRT claims that at the end of the trial it will review how many boats have visited and moored in Birmingham as well as any feedback from boaters before deciding whether to make the trial permanent.
